The Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Administration will pursue with other government agencies to improve the welfare of police officers in the 47 counties.

Committee chairman Paul Koinange said they will pursue the issue of budgetary allocation to change the status of the police in the country.

He said the committee is unhappy with the welfare and the living conditions of police officers.

“The welfare of the county’s security agencies is worrying to the committee and requires urgent attention,” he pointed out.

Koinange added the poor welfare and lack of proper housing units for police officers has contributed to mental health issues of the officers.

He spoke during the committee’s fact finding missions at the Mbaraki police housing estate in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.

The committee chairman said they will ensure police officers get adequate equipments and materials to serve members of public efficiently and effectively.

Koinange said they are the eyes of the government and they will definitely have the government attention.

He added the previous committees have never have carried out fact finding tours of police stations and police officers’ housing estates.
