Members of Parliament and Senators have said that they will unequivocally support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
In an address to the media after the Naivasha retreat on behalf of all the participants present and flanked by President Kenyatta and Odinga, Senator Minority Leader James Orengo said the meeting that brought together Senators and MPs and graced by President Kenyatta and Odinga saw all the participants agree to support the report.
“We stand here today on behalf of the approximately 300MPs to declare our total, unwavering commitment to the BBI. We are ready to proceed to popularize the report across the country. We have a schedule of activities that will culminate in a referendum,” Orengo read the statement on behalf of the participants.
Orengo said the report seeks to make sure no one is left behind by creating shared prosperity adding that the meeting also resolved to ensure that gender equity is achieved by making specific provisions.
He further said the youth were equally catered for in the BBI as it sought to give the youth a chance to get out of poverty by creating opportunities to make an income.
