City residents want pro-Sonko MCAs punished
The impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has elicited mixed reactions from Nairobi residents, with majority praising the Nairobi County Assembly for standing firm against the governor whom they blame for derailing service delivery.
Langata residents on Saturday morning hailed the move and called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga to take stern action against MCAs who were transported to Kwale by the ousted governor.
Led by politicians Oscar Omoke and Oginga Oduk, the residents said that it was important for Sonko to exit because of his refusal to give the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) funds.
“It is very clear that Sonko does not want Nairobi residents to get any services just because of his selfish interests and that is why we must support the MCAs for the position they have taken,”
They called on the ODM party to spell more punishment for the MCAs who defied the party position on the impeachment motion.
They hailed South C MCA Osman Khalif for standing firm despite all the intimidations from Governor Mike Sonko.
“ Fining them is not enough for people who can’t respect the party leader on a very important issue that touches on the lives of over 4 million resiedents. They should be suspended from the party for a period of one year,”
The ODM party on Thursday fined 6 MCAs Sh,500,000 for misconduct and disrespect to the party position.
The residents declared their support for NMS and called on all leaders and the Jua Cali sector to rally behind President Uhuru in his efforts to achieve the big four agenda.
