Roots Party candidate Isaac Chege Claims he is the best Candidate to Succeed Sonko

Roots party of Kenya has joined the race to succeed the embattled former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Sonko was impeached by the senate after being accused of misappropriation of County funds.

The MCAs accused him of diverting Sh297 million meant for the bursary for needy students.

Already the IEBC has announced the polls will be conducted on February 18, 2021.

Addressing the media at his office, Isaac Chege said that he is the best bet to transform the Nairobi politics.

He said that for long, the city politics have been controlled by cartels who ends up ruining the economy of the Nairobian for their selfish gain.

“I believe am in a better position to transform the politics of the city, my development records and connections with top investors across the World will positively transform the livelihood of Nairobi people, “he said.

Party leader Prof George Wajackoyah last year unveiled Isaac Chege Njuguna as their candidate where he issued (Isaac) with party certificate.

Mr Njuguna is a businessman, a scientist and alumni of Alliance, Nairobi, Strathmore and City University in London.

Roots party has also sponsored a candidate for the upcoming Matungu by-election.

Mr Chege is expected to battle it out with former assistant minister Margaret Wanjiru who will contest under UDA party that is associated with deputy president William Ruto.

Others in the race include former Dagoretti MP Denis Waweru, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna among others.

Former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth is also said to be interested though he hasn’t declared publicly.

Recently Sonko announced he might take 10 years to leave from active politics.

Ann Kananu Mwenda will be vetted by the County assembly on Friday as the deputy governor.

Sonko had appointed her before being impeached.
