Meet 34 year old Gedhia the Marsabit Gubernatorial candindate

Young,bold and daring is what could be the easiest way to describe 34 year old Gedhia Mamo who has declared interest in the Marsabit gubernatorial race.

Against all odds,she has focused her political Arsenal on the county’s biggest position,a move many women across the country are not willing to make.

To imagine that she is doing it in the analls or Marsabit, a place where women are still facing a myriad of discrimination cases is even more interesting.
She is aiming to unsit the current governor Ali Mohamud and believes that she has all it takes to overcome the cultural barriers to succeed.

” I believe I can make it and culture can’t stop me from getting to the level I want so that I can help our people,”

Her campaign is modeled around the need to solve the cultural problems,bring cohesion to stop the killings that are often witnessed in the county.
” Once you have a peaceful county then development comes automatically and that is why Marsabit should treat this as a serious catalyst to development,” she said.

She adds that there is a need for the county government to collaborate with the national government to solve the education crisis in the county.Water and the recurrent drought cases is something that she also wants to fix.

The mother of two will be up against eight other candidates in the race and she is seeking the ODM ticket under the Azimio La Umoja Movement.

She has served as the chief officer for  tourism between 2013 and 2017 and boasts of  a master’s degree in Governance, Peace and Security studies. She is a consultant with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.

She hails from the minority community-Sakuye community and admits that the  rivalry between the dominant Borana and Gabra communities have derailed development hence the need for a peaceful regime.

She said that she is supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga because of his persistent fight and devotion in defending the rights of minority tribes in Kenya and his role in bringing devolution to Kenya.
