Agano Party Presidential aspirant Waihiga Mwaure has told the East African Community lead elections observer to Kenya former Tanzania President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete that he erred when he said that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a right to support a presidential candidate of his choice in Tuesday’s General Elections.
Addressing the Media on Monday after having a meeting with the EAC Election Observers at a Nairobi Hotel, Mwaure said Uhuru instead needed to silently support his candidate but not to endorse one openly and go all the way out to even campaign for one.
He said that he raised pertinent questions with the EAC Observer mission including misuse of state machinery by Deputy President William Ruto who is running for President through UDA and Raila Odinga of Azimio of Azimio who enjoys the backing of the president. Mwaure said the two have been using state resources to run their campaigns hence disadvantaging the other candidates.
‘What if the candidate the sitting president is supporting loses the elections. Where will that leave him?’ Mwaure posed.
He asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, to do its job without intimidation and ensure it conducts a free, fair, transparent and credible election, remarks echoed by his running mate Ruth Mucheru Mutua.
