A new Sub-County has been unveiled in Isiolo as Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo steps up effort to bring services closer to the residents of the County.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Friday 1st September, 2023 unveiled Malkagalla Cherab Sub-County and installed the inaugural Deputy County Commissioner to operationalise government services in the devolved unit.
In a terse statement, Prof. Kindiki announced that all County Commissioners, their deputies, Chiefs and their assistants would be required to sign individual performance contracts.
Kindiki said the contracts would be used to gauge the administrators delivery of national government services including security, control of illicit alcoholic drinks and drugs within their jurisdictions and acts of terrorism among several other government services.
Addressing the congregation on Friday, Governor Guyo said: “Sub-counties are devolved units that enable county governments and the National Government to seamlessly exercise their functions and deliver services closer to Mwananchi as required by the law”.
Guyo made the remarks when he hosted the Interior CS in Isiolo to operationalize the newly created Malkagalla Cherab Sub-County. Prof Kindiki installed Mr. Andrew Omolo as the first Deputy County Commissioner( DCC).
Leaders present at the event included Isiolo County Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, Isiolo Couty Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba, the County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding and several Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
Mr Guyo lauded the CS for unveiling the new administrative unit, noting that it would ease his services to the people of Isiolo.
“I take this early opportunity to thank Prof. Kindiki for unveiling the new Malkagalla Cherab Sub-County and installing a Deputy County Commissioner to bring National Government Services closer to the people of Isiolo”, said the governor.
“The new unit will also facilitate my administration’s effective delivery of services to area residents” Guyo noted.
Governor Guyo explained that the new sub-county would ameliorate access to required national government services. Notably, he pointed out that response to incidents of insecurity would be expedited while the registration of persons would also be easily manageable.
“I am confident that today’s operationalization exercise will re-ignite hope for a better future to the many residents of villages and Wards that make up the new sub-county”, Governor Guyo said.
However, Guyo requested the Interior CS to deploy a Sub-County Police Commander, Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer, Registrar of Persons, Registrar of Births and Deaths, and a Sub-County Director Education to ease delivery of services to the residents and bolster security.
