Gachagua Calls For Strengthening of environment from destruction
There is an urgent need to protect the environment from destruction, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated.
He said vegetation must find a balance for elimination of the tsetse fly adding that this is how the government can meet its commitment to the Lomé (Togo) Resolution of the year 2000 of eliminating tsetse flies through the Pan African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC).
“Indeed, Kenya remains steady in eliminating the tsetse fly under the current development policy, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” he pointed out.
Gachagua stated that manufacturing is key pillar in the next two years adding that Kenya will stop importing leather items.
He spoke during opening of 36th General Conference of the International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control (ISCTRC) at PrideInn hotel in Mombasa county.
The Deputy President told 300 participants from across Africa and beyond, the research has established that livestock contribute 10 per cent methane arguing this is one of the key greenhouse gases driving climate change.
Gachagua reminded the forum besides hosting the 36th General Conference of the International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control, they are welcomed to the home of Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resource.
He called upon all stakeholders to work towards consequential outcomes in policy and operational research.
“It is a moment to look at the contribution of research in solving contemporary challenges,” he pointed out.
