Kenya Holds its Inaugural County Peer Review Mechanism Summit

Nepad-APRM hosted fourteen governors at their first summit which was held at KICC, Nairobi yesterday to review their best practice methods in their counties. Among the governors were Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri County, Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County, Simba Arati of Kiwi County, Abdulswammad Nassir of Mombasa County, James Ore go of Siaya County among others. The peer to peer review was done on a voluntary basis and twelve counties were able to participate and 36 counties were represented at the summit.

Africa Peer Review Mechamism(APRM) CEO Ambassador Dr. Samori Okwiya noted that,”the process had gone all the way with respect to coming up with a self-assesment report that was generated by the citizens of the respective counties. It is important to note that these reports are reports that the governors being reviewed have tgese reports that have been submitted to the process so tgey can be able to learn and train each other on issues around governance, pick best practices so as to improve service delivery in their various counties.”

The governors said that some of their challenges were finances, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Public participation, land, health services delivery while some of the achievements were innovation in the counties, digitalosation and easy of flow of information between the citizens and the leaders.

The report will be shared with the president to share to the progress report at the APRM Heads of State Summit at the African Union General Assembly Summit to be held of in Aprim 2025.
