The much awaited Mombasa Tong-Il-Moo-Do open has been pushed forward to this weekend.

Tong-Il-Moo-Do Federation Assistant Secretary General Elvis Malipe has confirmed that the 12th edition of the Mombasa open international championship will take place this weekend at the port city.

He said they had expected over 27 countries to take part in the event before being pushed a week forward.

“We have already seen foreign teams jetting into the coutry for the championship before it was pushed forward a week,” he pointed out.

Malipe said teams already in the coastal city will be forced to adjust to the new date for the championship.

He was addressing the media at the Aga Khan Academy in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county, which is the venue for the championship.

The Federation Assistant Secretary General told the media the championship was to be held last weekend but was delayed due to a lack of funds from the sports ministry headquarters.

Malipe said they expect to get funds in good time to start the championship preparations.

He added they expect to ferry critical equipment to be used for the weekend tournament.

“The decision to postpone the event for a week was reached after the Federation consulted with the world body of the Tong-Il-Moo-Do Federation,” he said.

The Tong-Il-Moo-Do Federation Assistant Secretary General confirmed the new date will be August 31st to September 1st.
