  • The four MCAs are said to have been driven in one car under the cover of darkness to a secluded venue in Kilimani area that is said to be manned by GSU officers.
  • Impeccable sources said Governor Sakaja also drove himself to the meeting venue without bodyguards conceal the purpose.
A common adage among the people of East Africa which says – lisemwalo lipo na kama halipo linakuja, as captured by prolific Kenyan writer, Kyallo Wadi Wamitila in his book, Kamusi ya Methali is testament of the unfolding political machinations at City Hall.

Until Monday, September 2, 2024 City Hall silent about media reports alluding to an imminent plot by Members of Nairobi City County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.

But while speaking at a public function on Monday in Umoja Ward within Nairobi’s eastlands suburbs, Governor Sakaja lifted a lid on the matter dismissing the media reports as mere propaganda aimed at distracting him from serving the city residents.

However, Nairobi City County Assembly Minority Whip, Ronaldo Mugambi who attended the function told the governor to off-load some officials in his county executive Committee, like President William Ruto did recently, to streamline operations of the county government to public expectations.

Mr Mugambi urged Governor Sakaja to embrace MCAs because they comprised his first line of defence and cushion as well as shock absorbers, under the prevailing impeachment threats.

The Times has established that on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at night, Governor Sakaja convened a secret meeting with four key Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition MCAs at a secluded area in Kilimani suburbs.

Sakaja is said to have beseeched MCAs from the majority Azimio side for conciliatory talks ahead of the House resumption on Tuesday nextweek, to forestall his imminent impeachment.

According to our sources, Sakaja was to use the opportunity for the MCAs to place their demands on the table about issues that had eroded a mutual working relationship between governor and the county legislators.

The MCAs who reportedly attended the secret meeting with the governor included a leader in the House from the Azimio side, an influential House committee chairman from ODM and the other two members from Wiper and Azimio respectively.

Multiple sources in the capital told The Times that the governor drove himself to the venue, said to be highly protected by GSU officers, without bodyguards to conceal the vital purpose of the meeting.

“The governor has been in a desperate situation begging for leniency. He convened the crucial meeting in earnest to diffuse growing calls by MCAs and disillusioned city residents for his impeachment”, an impeccable source at City Hall told The Times.

Earlier, media reports indicated that a group of Nairobi MCAs had already drafted a Motion, which the architects planned to table on the floor when the Assembly resumes from recess next week.

The governor had also vehemently denied claims carried on social media platforms indicating he was removed from President William Ruto’s jet bound for China on Monday.
