COTU Calls on Seafarers Fraternity to End Wrangles
Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU] Secretary General Dr. Francis Atwoli has appealed to the seafarers fraternity to end their wrangles.
He said there is need to strengthen the fraternity to speak with one voice.
“Those who lost to the current union officials should rally behind those in office to strengthen them and end the squabbles within the fraternity,” he said.
Atwoli said there is no need to have factions in the fraternity and urged them to reclaim the lost glory.
He was speaking during the official opening of the Seafarers Union of Kenya [SUK] office in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
The COTU Secretary General said they are ready to support the newly elected officials under the leadership of SUK Secretary General Atie Swaleh.
Atwoli reminded the fraternity that SUK was one of the most powerful unions in the coast region and urged them to bury their hatchet for the sake of prosperity.
He pointed out the union had a representative at the executive level at COTU and the fraternity has their respect and support.
“During the old days the fraternity was like a household name and it is not so these days,” he said.
