Only 8 Events Approved For Mega Festival Scheduled for October
Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) chairman Hamisi Mwaguya has confirmed only eight events have been approved to take place during the East African Ocean Freight Mega festival in the port city.
He said that swimming, sailing boat race and jeting race are among events listed to take place during the festival scheduled for the 18th to the 20th of October this year.
“Kenya Coast Guard Service, Kenya Navy, Mombasa county government and KMA are teams working jointly for the success of the festival,” he pointed out.
Mwaguya said they are also working jointly with other stakeholders including the regional countries’ representatives for the success of the event.
He was addressing journalists at the Mombasa Club in Mombasa county ahead of the forthcoming East African Ocean Freight Mega festival scheduled to take place on 18th to 20th October this year at the Mombasa sports club. The authority is co sponsor of the three-day festival.
The KMA chairman told the media that the events involved companies, stakeholders and state corporations using the Indian Ocean at the famous Tudor Creek.
Mwaguya told the media the main stage of the events will be at the famous Fort Jesus in Mvita constituency. He explained the festivals are competitions meant for Ocean users.
“The events will mark the maritime heritage which we have taken over,” he said.
The KMA boss told the journalists there is urgent need to see how countries can both benefit and enrich themselves from the oceans.
