Kenya’s DCI Ranked Top Investigative Agency in Africa
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kenya, under the leadership of Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, has been ranked as the leading investigative agency in Africa, according to a recent survey by the renowned research firm, KenyaTrak. The survey assessed the performance of investigative agencies across the continent, focusing on their ability to resolve major criminal cases.
The DCI Kenya topped the rankings with an impressive 82% popularity rating, attributed to its significant achievements in combating major crimes and curbing corruption. The agency’s prowess in areas such as cybercrime, terrorism, and organized crime has positioned it as a crucial pillar in Kenya’s law enforcement framework.
In 2024, the DCI made headlines with the introduction of advanced forensic laboratories, a development that has substantially enhanced its capacity to tackle digital crimes and dismantle organized gangs. These advancements, coupled with strong partnerships with international bodies like the FBI and Interpol, have further cemented the DCI’s reputation as a formidable investigative force on the continent.
Following Kenya’s DCI, Ghana’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) secured the second position in the survey, with a 76% rating. The Ghanaian CID has earned a reputation for its effective handling of organized crime, human trafficking, and financial fraud, making it one of the most respected investigative agencies in West Africa.
Uganda’s investigative agencies came in third with a 74% rating, recognized for their efforts in addressing various criminal activities within the region. Ethiopia’s National Bureau of Investigations and Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) rounded out the top five, with ratings of 68% and 64%, respectively.
Other countries that made it to the top ten include Egypt (61%), Sudan (55%), and Zimbabwe (52%). These rankings reflect the growing importance of effective investigative bodies in maintaining law and order across the African continent.
The survey by KenyaTrak not only highlights the achievements of these agencies but also underscores the increasing demand for sophisticated investigative techniques in the face of evolving criminal activities. As Kenya’s DCI continues to set new standards in criminal investigations, its success serves as a model for other agencies in Africa and beyond.
