CS Miano Marks Key Achievements in Tourism One Month In Office
The wildlife and tourism sector in Kenya has had a fresh breath since Rebecca Miano took over as the cabinet secretary
Despite taking the docket a few weeks ago, Miano has brought significant change that every Kenyan is now talking about.
“This Ministry, the primacy of imagination is way more potent than the pursuit of mere routine dictated to by wearisome rhythms of conventional thinking. In any case, human imagination itself is infinitely elastic. We can and will create sensations that will fuel imagination merely by re-telling our story. That is precisely what I look forward to as we set sail in a new season and to new thought-fed destinations. Together, I am confident that we can recreate the tourism and wildlife sector and bequeath it a touch that will make Kenya the Shangri-La of Africa,” said Miano while taking the docket from CS Alfred Mutua.
HYENA MENACE
Immediately, she took over, the CS was faced with the serious challenge of dealing with the hyena menace that was terrorizing residents of Juja and the surroundings.
Today as we speak, the problem is already a thing of the past. Through her directives an elite team from Kenya Wildlife Service KWS has been camping on ground and this has left Juja residents to coexist well.
WORLD TOURISM WEEK
Because of her nature of being a workaholic CS Miano recently led Kenyans in celebrating the World Tourism week that saw Kenyans enjoy access to all game parks for free.
She also launched nine regional tourism circuits as part of a market diversification strategy aimed at attracting both foreign and domestic tourists.
Miano announced that these circuits, spread across the country, are designed to revitalize Kenya’s tourism industry by catering to current demands and emerging trends while aligning with conservation priorities.
“We have incorporated emerging niches such as adventure, sports, culture, eco-tourism and wellness tourism. Each region offers a unique reason to visit, and we encourage travelers to savor the diverse experiences,” she said in a release from Kenya’s lakeside city of Kisumu.
The CS has also been very vocal on efforts to bring back the northern white from extinction.
WORLD RHINO DAY
Miano who spoke in Samburu during World Rhino Day Celebrations said kenyan scientists and their counterparts from other areas globally are an inch closer to saving the Northern white rhino species from extinction through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), with only two remaining at Ol Pejeta conservancy in Laikipia County.
ELEPHANTS TRANSLOCATION
Recently the CS also spearheaded the translocation of approximately 50 elephants from Mwea National Reserve to Aberdare National Park. This effort underscores KWS’s commitment to improving human-wildlife coexistence and addressing environmental degradation within Mwea National Reserve.
Other keen areas which the CS is bringing good co-exist among the different agencies domiciled under her ministry.
Most of the agencies are actually in the process of launching their strategic plans.
All these are efforts focused on helping the country record 2.5 million tourists by this year, which is the highest.
