Tourism Boost as Cruise Ship Docks at Port of Mombasa
From Europe the cruise ship went to Zanzibar, Pemba, Lamu, Mombasa and was now heading to Seychelles
A cruise ship has docked at the port of Mombasa to boost the tourism sector in the country.
The tourists found themselves in an unfamiliar territory after they were welcomed with rain which caused a delay in their disembarking from the cruise ship along berth number one.
Speaking during a brief ceremony despite the chilly weather Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Marine Operations and Harbor Master Captain Ali Abdill told the media the cruise ship was in the country late December last year.
He confirmed the cruise ship is in the country on a transit circuit of a European tour with a total of 128 passengers disembarking out of 184 who were on board.
“The cruises ship has 125 crew members on board apart from passengers who disembarked,” he disclosed.
The KPA officer said the SH Diana was on transit to Seychelles and had made a similar stop over in Lamu prior to docking at the port facility.
Captain Ali Abdille told journalists at the port facility that from Europe the cruise ship went to Zanzibar, Pemba, Lamu, Mombasa and was now heading to Seychelles
Meanwhile, President William Ruto said the Shimoni port which is Kenya’s first dedicated fish port is now at 82 percent completion.
The Head of State made the remarks during the marking of the 61st Mashujaa day held at Kwale stadium in Kwale county.
Ruto said upon the completion of the facility it will boost the fishing industry by increasing the handling capacity by 50,000 metric tons of fish annually.
“Its aim is to promote value addition for both domestic and export markets,” he pointed out.
