The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Mombasa Memorial Cathedral Sub-Dean, Very Rev. Dr. Dorcas Kiundu, described 2024 as a challenging year that many Kenyans would prefer to forget.

Speaking during a crossover service at the Mombasa Memorial Cathedral in Mvita Constituency, Mombasa County, Rev. Dorcas urged the nation to embrace 2025 with renewed hope and optimism.

“Kenyans are relieved to leave 2024 behind and move forward with the hope for a brighter, more promising year,” she said, adding that no one wished for a repeat of the hardships faced last year.

The Sub-Dean highlighted the struggles endured by the nation, including an economic collapse that made life unbearable for many. She also pointed to the health sector’s challenges, particularly the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA), which left the healthcare system in disarray.

Rev. Dorcas expressed deep concern over the rising cases of abductions across the country, describing them as a source of anguish and confusion for families and religious leaders alike.

“Kenyans are weary of the abductions that have thrown the nation into turmoil,” she said, emphasizing the need for courage and resilience to overcome the ongoing challenges.

She called on worshippers to hold onto hope and look forward to a year filled with light, beauty, and better prospects, despite the difficulties faced in the past.
