Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang announced that the government has successfully supplied textbooks to all levels of learning, with a special focus on Grade 9.
Speaking at the Uhuru na Kazi building in Mombasa County, Kipsang confirmed that 99% of Grade 9 textbooks have been printed, and 85% of schools have received their books through a government distribution initiative.
“The government will ensure that schools yet to receive their books will get them over the weekend in readiness for Monday,” he said.
Accompanied by county directors from the Coast region, Kipsang also highlighted progress in classroom construction, revealing that over 13,000 classrooms have been built out of the 16,000 required.
“The government has a deficit of approximately 3,000 classrooms, which are at various stages of construction,” he explained.
Kipsang added that priority would be given to schools with low enrollment numbers due to delays in classroom completion.
He invited the media to visit schools to witness the ongoing construction efforts, emphasizing that the initiative aims to prepare adequately for the reopening of schools on Monday.
