Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system during a visit to Kenyatta National Hospital’s (KNH) Accident & Emergency Department.
The visit highlighted the administration’s focus on enhancing emergency medical services to ensure timely and quality care for all Kenyans.
Received by KNH Board Chair Dr. Samier Murravej and CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri, the Deputy President was joined by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Debra Mlongo Barasa, Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai and Ms. Mary Muthoni, and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth.
During his tour, Professor Kindiki engaged with healthcare workers and patients, addressing issues such as resource allocation, infrastructure, and emergency preparedness. He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving emergency services, stating,
“Emergency healthcare is a lifeline for our citizens, and we are committed to ensuring Kenyans receive the best possible care during their moments of need.”
Health CS Dr. Mlongo Barasa echoed these sentiments, highlighting the ministry’s resolve to enhance nationwide emergency response capabilities as part of broader efforts to strengthen Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The visit comes as the government intensifies efforts to equip health facilities with modern infrastructure, skilled personnel, and resources to handle medical emergencies effectively. For KNH staff and patients, the visit reinforced hope for improved healthcare delivery.
Professor Kindiki concluded with a call for collaboration among stakeholders to build a robust healthcare system, adding,
“A strong healthcare system is the backbone of national development, and we must all ensure every Kenyan has access to the care they deserve.”
This renewed focus on emergency services signals a brighter future for Kenya’s healthcare sector, aligning with the administration’s vision of accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
