ODM leaders must speak in one voice on broad based government deal
ODM leaders have been urged to end confusion on the party’s stand on the broad based government that has some of its members holding key positions in the cabinet.
Businessman and politician Johnson Oduk has urged those holding leadership positions in the party to meet and agree on the message to share with the public to end the ongoing confusion.
He said this in relation to comments made by the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who said there is no agreed working partnership between the party and the ruling coalition.
Oduk who spoke on Sunday said that the direction given by the party leaders and patron Raila Odinga reigns supreme and it’s incumbent on those holding positions in the party to drive the message home.
” Mr Odinga has clearly shown the way when he hosted the President in Siaya and it is important that we speak in one voice on the broad based government,” he said.
Oduk said that the party has an opportunity to help in transforming the country by having a voice in the cabinet.
” We have Cabinet Secretaries who have the opportunity to incorporate some of the ideas the party had into the governornment agenda and this involves key issues like taxation and managing inflation,” he said.
He said that some of the measures being implemented by Treasury CS John Mbadi to steady the economy are beginning to near fruit.
” He said that we have to borrow more internally as we work on paying our external debts despite all the challenges,”
The Langata based politician has however called on ODM MPs not to compromise on their oversight role.
” It doesn’t mean that our MPs have to compromise and back anything from governornment but must be objective and pro people despite the broad based government arrangement,”
