Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked his Jubilee Party and the Opposition to unite and work together, with all leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of 2027.

On Wednesday, Uhuru, also the Jubilee Party leader convened his party’s NEC meeting in Nairobi to discuss former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s role in the next elections.

The former CS has been touted as  Jubilee Party’s 2027  flagbearer.

Leaders present at the meeting including Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kion, former ICT CS Joe Mucheru, former Interior PS Dr. Karanja Kibicho, and Uhuru administration’s head of presidential delivery unit Andrew Wakahiu asked Dr. Matiangi to start engaging Kenyans and other leaders in the Opposition, including Gachagua over his 2027 candidature.

”They would be happy if Kenyans would accept to have Matiang’i as their Jubilee Presidential candidate. They have also emphasized the need to ensure that we are working with like minded leaders who also believe UDA has mismanaged the affairs of this country,” Jeremiah Kioni said of the meeting.

”Rigathi is also doing some commendable work. Ile kazi  anafanya siwajui ni akina nani wangeweza kufanya hiyo kazi. Hata yeye, tunataka akuje hapa,” the Jubilee SG added.

Last year in June during a stopover meeting in Limuru, Gachagua asserted that most of the leaders in the vote-rich region including him, were misled to attack Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2022 presidential campaigns.

He acknowledged that it was not wise to attack their leader publicly and apologized to the former president and his family.
