Additional 144 Kenya Police Officers, Including An All-Female Elite Unit Deployed to Haiti

On Thursday, an additional 144  Kenya police officers left for  Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission aimed at restoring stability in the Caribbean nation.

The officers include a 24-team elite SWAT unit.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, while seeing off the officers described praised Kenya’s efforts in the peacekeeping mission,  saying it was a noble cause.

” Kenya’s leadership in this noble mission, which is supported by the UN Trust Fund for Haiti established under the UN Security Council Resolution 2699, is in recognition of our long-standing contribution to peacekeeping missions and peace support operations,” CS Murkomen said.

”We’re constantly in touch with the UN and countries supporting this mission including the USA whose support in equipment and funding has been invaluable and unwavering,” he added.
The latest contingent brings the total Kenyan deployment to 744 officers, following an initial deployment of 600 personnel. On February 6, 2025, the US Embassy in Nairobi dispelled earlier reports that the Trump administration had cut off funding to the Multisectoral Mission, reaffirming the new administration’s steadfast support for the mission.
