Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has described President Ruto’s decree, ordering the removal of vetting while issuing National IDs in the North Eastern region as a policy disaster that will have dire consequences for the country.

Speaking on Saturday in Trans Nzoia, Governor Natembeya said the country will be full of foreigners in another five or so years as a result of  President Ruto’s move.

”I have a problem with the removal of vetting processing of National Identification Cards and passports in North Eastern. I can assure you, that in another five years or so, we will have enough foreigners here with IDs. The consequences are going to be dire,” the Trans Nzoia County boss said.

On Wednesday last week, President Ruto signed a Presidential Proclamation to officially abolish Identification Cards vetting for residents of the Northeastern region.

The President said the move would see residents of Northern Kenya acquire national identification documents with ease.

The Head of State termed the signing of the Presidential Proclamation on Registration and Issuance of IDs to Border Counties as an end to unjust and disenfranchising practices.

“If it’s about vetting, let all children of Kenya be vetted equally without any discrimination. We want the people of Northern Kenya to feel equal to the rest of the country,” he said.
