RSF Signs Charter for Sudan’s Parallel Government in Nairobi

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of Sudan, with the support of the Government of Kenya, are holding a ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to sign the Sudan Founding Charter.
This pact aims to establish a parallel civilian government in Sudan, a move that has sparked discussions about Kenya’s role in regional politics, with opinions varying from seeing it as diplomatic leadership to meddling in foreign affairs.
The proclamation in Nairobi marks a direct challenge to the Port Sudan-based military regime of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Framed as the “Political Charter for the Government of Peace and Unity,” today’s signing of the charter is being positioned as an effort to “restore the legitimate government” that was “overthrown by remnants and militias of the Islamic movement.”
The event brings together Sudan’s political, civil, and social forces, alongside armed movements, to chart a new phase of stability and sustainable peace.
