Former Interior Cabinet Dr. Fred Matiang’i has officially been endorsed by the Jubilee Party as its 2027 presidential torch bearer.
This is according to the party’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni who on Thursday revealed the Uhuru party arrived at the decision following a consultation with party’s representatives from across the country.
“These members here have joined others across the country and other leaders of other parties by also saying they want their own presidential candidate as a party,” Kioni stated.
“This is not to mean that he(Matiangi) become the eventual candidate but a presidential candidate within the party who will join others in coming up with one person who I believe as a coalition in the opposition we will be able to back,” he clarified, noting that the endorsement as a Jubilee Party decision ahead of further engagements with Azimio coalition partners to pick a final presidential candidate in 2027.
The Jubilee Party SG further expressed his confidence that the leader settled upon will be a suitable candidate, accepted by all Kenyans and not a boardroom decision.
“The party’s organ themselves has decided on Matiang’i within Jubilee. Later he will meet against other leaders from the other coalitions and agree and come up with the best place to lead them forward,” he stressed.
“It’s not a decision to be made within the boardroom. It is a decision that must involve Kenyans. Kenyans must voice their choice of who they want among all those people. I’m confident that would happen.”
