1 Million Chapatis Daily: Ruto Pledges Chapati Making Machine For Nairobi Schools

During his tour in Nairobi on Tuesday, President William Ruto announced he will purchase a chapati-making machine capable of producing one million chapatis daily for Nairobi schools, to support Governor Sakaja’s ‘Dishi na County’ school feeding program.
Speaking at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare constituency, the President directed Governor Sakaja to start looking for where the machine is being sold so as to make a purchase.
“The governor has asked me that in order to add chapati to Nairobi’s dish, I should buy a chapati-making machine. I have agreed to buy the machine for him. Now, Governor, find a place to buy a chapati-making machine that makes one million chapatis,” said President Ruto.
The Head of State gave the promise after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the Dishi na County program feeds 300,000 students in Nairobi, and he would have to make one million chapatis for them.
Governor Sakaja, who was part of the Head of State’s entourage, emphasized the program’s success and the need to scale it up. While addressing students, he engaged them on possible menu additions.
“Mnapenda Dishi na County? Chakula iko aje? Tuongeze nini—chapati? Let me talk to the President so he can get us a chapati-making machine,” Sakaja told the enthusiastic learners.
“I am feeding 300,000 children in Nairobi, and now I will need to make one million chapatis. I will ask the president to help me with a chapati-making machine,” Sakaja stated.
