Talanta Sports City Stadium To Cost Taxpayer Ksh 44B Upon Completion

The construction of the 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi will cost the taxpayer $344.5 million (Sh44.7 billion).

This is according to a document presented before the National Assembly’s Committee on Sports and Culture by the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, led by Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya yesterday.

Despite 37 percent of work done, the government had only paid five per cent of the total construction cost.

CS Tuya revealed KSh. 2 billion has already been paid to the Chinese firm that has been contracted to construct the Stadium.

Situated at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, the Talanta Sports City will have a 60,000-seat FIFA standard professional football stadium to be constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The project is slated for completion by the end of 2025 and will serve as a main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as matches, of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
