Ruto Responds to The Standard Over ‘Betrayal’ Headline As Scrutiny of Union with Odinga Intensifies

President William Ruto has taken a swipe at the Sunday Standard’s headline, describing the Head of State’s partnership with ODM boss Raila Odinga as a betrayal of Kenyans, while drumming up support for the broad-based government bringing together Kenya Kwanza and Azimio members.
“You can see today we are seated here—Azimio and Kenya Kwanza governments. The unity we are pushing in Kenya is divine and God-ordained. That is how we can be blessed as a nation—if we are united,” Ruto remarked in Ntulele, Narok County, during an Easter Sunday service.
He further criticized the paper, referring to it as “those telling us through newspapers that unity is betrayal.”
Adding ”How shameful and tragic, while the bishop is telling us that nothing is impossible when we are united. The devil has a different message against unity in our nation. May the devil be defeated.”
The Head of State’s remarks come at a time his union with ODM boss Raila Odinga is under intense scrutiny, especially inside ODM, with members split between supporting the pact or criticizing it.
Siaya Governor James Orengo is leading an ODM wing against the broad-based government and has been put on notice by the Raila camp, with threats of being impeached on the table.
