Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to form a new political party, signaling possible cracks within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The announcement came on April 29, 2025, during a meeting with grassroots leaders in Nyeri County.

Gachagua said the new party will represent the interests of the Mount Kenya region and restore what he described as “lost respect and influence” in national politics.

Though he did not reveal the party’s name, sources suggest the groundwork is already underway.

This move has fueled speculation about growing tensions between Gachagua and President William Ruto.

While some Kenya Kwanza leaders have criticized the decision, others see it as a potential game-changer ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua’s next steps will be closely watched as Kenya’s political landscape begins to shift once again.
