Deputy president Kithure Kindiki has firmly responded to remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over a recent gathering of Kikuyu musicians at his residence in Karen, Nairobi.
The meeting, which took place on May 23, 2025, drew criticism from Rigathi Gachagua, who accused the artists of betrayal, suggesting their presence at Kithure Kindiki’s home undermined his authority and the unity of the Mt. Kenya region.
Deputy president Kithure Kindiki, addressing the growing uproar, dismissed for Rigathi Gachagua’s claims and reiterated his commitment to continued engagement with Kenyan creatives. “I will not stop engaging with musicians and other stakeholders across the country. In fact, I intend to invite 500 more to Karen in the coming days,” he stated, signaling a bold stance in the face of political pressure.
The deputy president Kithure Kindiki accused the former Deputy President Gachagua of acting like a “self-appointed moral authority,” cautioning him against assuming a divine role in lecturing others. “You are not God. Stop preaching to people as if you are the final judge of their actions,” Kithure Kindiki said, adding that leadership demands inclusivity and respect for all voices.
In a sharp rejoinder, Kithure Kindiki warned that his patience should not be misinterpreted as weakness, vowing to respond firmly to what he termed as political intimidation and sabotage.
“Respect is earned, and I will not allow anyone to threaten or undermine my position under the guise of outreach,” he said.
