President William Ruto has intensified his charm offensive in Nyanza, pledging transformative development and dismissing critics as visionless politicians focused on early campaigns.

Speaking in Homa bay on Friday the President underscored his administration’s commitment to national unity and inclusive growth, while showcasing a portfolio of major infrastructure and housing projects in the region traditionally an opposition stronghold.

Accompanied by ODM leader Raila Odinga, Ruto said his government was working to fulfill its promises to Kenyans, despite political distractions. “Our opponents are currently in a political mode, but I have told them to allow me and Raila to work for the people,” Ruto remarked. “They have no agenda other than calling me names. We are here to deliver.”

In a show of political synergy,  earlier on Friday, Raila pledged five acres of land for the government’s affordable housing programme. The move comes as part of an MoU between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aimed at fostering national development and reducing regional disparities.

Ruto announced that beyond the Makasembo housing project, his government plans to build 4,000 affordable housing units in Kisumu, with 2,400 already under construction. The President also confirmed that the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Kisumu and Malaba would begin in December.

Ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations, Ruto is set to unveil a series of completed projects in Homa Bay County, including the Sh600 million Homa Bay Pier, Sh1.2 billion university block at Tom Mboya University, and multiple water and road infrastructure upgrades.

With strategic investments and visible development gains in Nyanza, Ruto is positioning himself as a unifying leader with a tangible vision for Kenya’s future one he hopes will secure him a second term in 2027.
