39 percent of city residents would vote for Embakasi North MP James Gakuya as Governor of Nairobi if elections were held today, a survey has revealed.

According to the survey by Vision Polls, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino came in second with 30 percent followed closely by Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi and the incumbent Johnson Sakaja came in last. The survey argues that Gakuya has been prefered because of his choice to stand with city residents calling out the current administration for introducing draconian rules.

Gakuya was very vocal when Sakaja attempted to eject out Marikiti traders.

He’s also on the forefront in issuance of bursaries and development projects in Embakasi North.

The poll argues with the current especially with several candidates coming from both luhya and luo communities he might be the surprise candidate who will win.

The Nairobi governorship contest is set to gather momentum in the coming days as more political outfits are set to field candidates for the coveted seat.

Already former KICC chairman Irungu Nyakera has also declared his interest for the seat.

Others who are said to be fighting for the seat include senator Edwin Sifuna.

Governor sakaja regime has been under serious scrutiny since the city has gone to ungovernable levels.

Crime has gone up, the matatu confusion and the garbage are some of the biggest challenges.
