Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has dismissed allegations that is supplying weapons for the ongoing conflict in Sudan following a report from NTV, which claimed that Kenyan arms were discovered in the possession of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to the Government spokesperson, Kenya’s involvement in Sudan is purely humanitarian and peace-driven.
“Kenya supports peace efforts through IGAD. Any other claims are baseless. We’re not involved in any arms deals,” Mwaura said at a press conference in Nairobi.
He further emphasized that, like any sovereign nation, Kenya has the right to engage in legal trade with other nations, labeling the allegations against Kenya as false and lacking any supporting evidence. He also pointed out that Kenya has contributed Ksh256 million (around USD 2 million) to support Sudan’s peace efforts and provide humanitarian assistance to civilians caught in the conflict.
Mwaura has reaffirmed Kenya’s neutral position regarding the conflict in Sudan. He mentioned that Kenya is prepared to welcome both the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Nairobi to foster dialogue and promote peace.
Additionally, he advocated for a collaborative peace initiative spearheaded by the African Union and the United Nations, akin to the “Ushirika” peace model that was implemented in South Sudan.
