A businesswoman who stole jewelry and electronics worth Sh6.5 million after allegedly administering “mchele” to a man she met at a club in Ruai, Nairobi is facing charges of theft and stupefying.
Margaret Wambere is accused of administering a stupefying drug to George Maina at Ruai gardens lounge along Kangundo road on July 21 with intent to commit a felony namely stealing, in contravention of section 230 of the Penal Code.
She is also facing a charge of theft contrary to section 268 (1) of the Penal Code where she is accused of stealing a gold royal men’s bracelet, a gold Miami Cuban chain, a gold Rolex watch, a gold ring and a mobile phone – Samsung S24 ultra all valued at Sh6,536,484 from Maina.
Wambere is accused of stealing from Maina on July 21, at Utawala area along Eastern Bypass Roa in Ruai Sub County.
She denied the charges and disputed the value of the items before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephany Bett of Makadara law courts.
The accused person was released on a bond of Sh200, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh100, 000.
Maina had gone to the club to enjoy Mungithi with a friend but the said friend met his other friend and sat with him. George sat at a separate table alone before Wambere joined him.
At around 3am Maina started feeling dizzy and informed his friend. They stayed until 5am when Maina decided to leave and Wambere allegedly accompanied him.
The complainant was driving as his friend followed from behind but the Maina hit a motorist in Utawala. Maina’s friend saw the lady alight from the vehicle with items belonging to Maina.
The lady disappeared after the accident leaving Maina unresponsive, almost unconscious.
Maina’s vehicle was taken to Mihango police station to settle the traffic incident where he had hit another motorist and he was then rushed to a nearby hospital after it was discovered he had been drugged. The complainant was stabilized and admitted.
After being discharged, Maina also discovered that money had been withdrawn from his digital wallet.
And reported the matter at Ruai police station and Wambere was traced and arrested after investigations linked her to the crimes. The case will be mentioned on October 7 for a pretrial.
