Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Diamond League Finals, scheduled for August 27–28 in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Kenyan sprint sensation cited ongoing pain in his hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal muscles as the reason for his withdrawal, bringing his season to an early close just days before the prestigious event.

“Due to recent hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal pain experienced over the past few weeks, I regret to inform you that I will be unable to participate in the Diamond League Finals 2025. I am optimistic about my recovery and anticipate being fully fit for Tokyo,” Omanyala said in a statement posted on his social media platforms.

Despite the setback, Omanyala has set his sights on making a full recovery in time for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, scheduled for September 13–21 in Japan.

The absence of Africa’s sprint king will be felt in Zurich, where the world’s elite athletes will gather at Sechseläutenplatz (August 27) and the Letzigrund Stadium (August 28) to battle for the prestigious Diamond Trophy.
