A fire has broken out at Tassia Estate in Nairobi County after a gas exploded in densely populated area.
The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed the incident, stating that they have dispatched a team to the scene.
“A fire has been reported at Tassia Estate in Nairobi County. Response teams are currently on their way to the scene,” the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement on X.
Images and videos obtained by The Times show that the fire appeared to have originated from one of the informal housing units within the estate before rapidly spreading to nearby structures.
As of the time of publication, no casualties had been reported. However, several hours after the fire began, more buildings had been completely engulfed by the flames.
The situation was worsened by the fact that the affected structures were primarily made of iron sheets and wood—materials that are highly flammable and ignite easily.
Efforts by local residents to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful, as the flames quickly grew beyond control. Many were forced to flee for their safety as their homes were reduced to ashes.
