Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja can breathe a sigh of relief after President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga successfully forestalled his impeachment.

The two leaders on Tuesday separately spent hours of discussions and deliberations with Members of County Assembly(MCAs) to help iron out grievances raised in the planned impeachment motion.

Sakaja’s survival comes with a one month ultimatum where he will have to promptly deal with at least three critical issues if the impeachment threats have to go away for good.

Some of the issues the governor has to immediately resolve include immediate disbursement of bursary funds, payment of all pending bills accrued under the Ward Development Fund and fast tracking of all projects within the 85 wards.

Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa confirmed that the resolutions are binding for the next one month and it will be upon Governor Sakaja to conform to the conditions issued.

“ In our discussions where the MCAs talked, their leaders talked and were listened to and we agreed that the impeachment be suspended and the governor given the issues he needs to sort,” Aladwa said

The governor was also advised to foster a cordial relationship between him and the MCAs, after complaints emerged that he hardly responds to their calls.

The governor was also told to drop some of his close associates whom the MCAs claim are an impediment to their work.

At the same time,MCAs who converged at State House gave the governor a two-month ultimatum, promising that the impeachment was not entirely dead.

The UDA MCAs criticized the governor over incompetence and total neglect of his development manifesto.

Some of the legislators at State House are said to have implored on the governor to effect changes in his cabinet.

The MCAs had collected over 80 signatures to oust Sakaja and over 20 charges raised against him.
