A Meru University student has been charged at the Milimani Law Courts with selling fake 2025 Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) papers.

Nasiuma Chrispinus Nambafu denied multiple counts, including false publication, possession of 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) papers purportedly from KNEC, and holding five national identity cards belonging to other individuals.

Prosecutors told the court that Nambafu was found distributing fake examination materials through online platforms in a scheme targeting candidates preparing for the 2025 national exams.

He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi, who released him on a cash bail of Sh100,000 and directed him to provide two contact persons.

The case comes as more than 3.4 million learners sit national examinations that began across the country on Monday, October 27.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogemba led the opening of examination papers for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) at the Bureti Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Nakuru County.

According to KNEC, this year’s assessments bring together the first full Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) cohort and the final group under the 8-4-4 system.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok and KNEC Chief Executive David Njengere supervised the opening of containers at Olympic Primary School in Kibra, Nairobi, marking the start of the Grade 6 and Grade 9 tests.
