The Milimani Commercial Magistrates Court has ruled in favour of media personality Steve Thompson Magana, popularly known as Oga Obinna, in a defamation lawsuit.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Judge Edward Too ordered Waiyaki Way-based media company Radio Africa, radio host Massawe Japanni, and socialite Black Cinderella to jointly pay Obinna a total of Sh6,100,000 in damages.
The case is from a 2024 interview on Massawe Japanni’s Radio Jambo show, during which Black Cinderella made unsubstantiated allegations linking Obinna to a sexual assault. The court found that the defendants aired and published the false claims without seeking verification or evidence, leading to widespread damage to Obinna’s reputation.
In his testimony, Obinna stated, “The host and the producers never asked for evidence but decided to air the story for Views and Likes or whatever reason. Massawe had been my colleague… she could have just asked me, she didn’t. I was called all kinds of names online and offline, and my reputation was soiled. Brand ikachomeka. They never apologised.”
Following the broadcast and subsequent online publication of the interview, Obinna opted to sue all parties involved for defamation.
The breakdown of the KSh 6.1 million award is as follows: Sh5,000,000 in general damages for harm to reputation. Sh500,000 in aggravated damages. Sh500,000 in damages in lieu of an apology and Sh100,000 in exemplary damages.
