There was high drama at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday after detectives pounced on a man accused of posing as a Kenya Air Force Brigadier and allegedly swindling desperate parents millions.
Joshua Mutui Muimi, who had arrived for a scheduled hearing, barely made it past the courthouse exit before officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) surrounded him. In viral footage circulating online, the man is seen attempting to shield his face while flanked by detectives, moments before handcuffs snap shut around his wrists.
What began as a routine appearance quickly turned into a tense chase scene in the court’s parking lot, with the accused trying to duck behind parked vehicles to evade cameras. Journalists and bystanders captured every moment as detectives escorted him to an unmarked police vehicle.
The fresh arrest comes barely two weeks after the suspect secured his freedom on bond. He had been released on November 24, 2025, after denying multiple charges, including impersonation and obtaining money by false pretenses.
His initial arrest on November 17, 2025, stunned investigators. According to detectives, the man was found inside his Milimani apartment dressed in full Kenya Air Force regalia, complete with Brigadier badges, Gorget patches, and an air of official authority.
In what prosecutors describe as a well-executed recruitment scam, the suspect allegedly preyed on hopeful families during the nationwide KDF recruitment exercise held between October 13 and 25, 2025. Some parents reportedly handed over large sums in exchange for promised “guaranteed” slots in the military.
During the raid on his residence, officers allegedly recovered fake admission and calling letters, fingerprint forms, a stamp pad, a personal identification card, and a KCSE certificate believed to belong to one of the victims. They also found keys to a Toyota Axio believed to have been used during the scheme.
Investigators now claim he defrauded families of at least Sh1.2 million, though that figure may rise as new complainants come forward.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives pursue additional charges. His case continues to draw public attention not just for its audacity, but for the boldness with which he allegedly operated.
Court proceedings are expected to resume once investigators table new evidence.
