The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife illuminated the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in national colours on Tuesday night to mark 62 years of independence and launch the Jamhuri Thematic Week.

Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano and Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja presided over the ceremony at 8 pm, featuring the lighting of the Christmas tree. The event kicks off a week of celebrations showcasing Kenya’s cultural heritage, youth creativity and tourism offerings.

CS Miano also presided over the official opening of a pool table competition, adding a touch of entertainment and community spirit to the occasion.

“This festive lighting ceremony is a reflection of Kenya’s vibrant culture, tourism appeal, and commitment to hosting memorable events for residents and visitors alike,” CS Miano said during the event.

The lighting of KICC and the fireworks display drew large crowds and highlighted Nairobi as a premier destination for holiday celebrations, blending tourism, culture, and recreational activities for the festive season.
