Detectives from the Special Crime Unit (SCU) on Monday arraigned a man at the Milimani Law Courts over allegations of publishing false and provocative information on social media.

The suspect, Boniface Mulinge Muteti, is accused of using his X (formerly Twitter) account on December 6, 2025, to post a message allegedly calling on members of the public to seize property owned by politicians and urging people to “arm themselves” in preparation for an uprising.

“If you come across anything owned by politicians, Anza kuchukua, these people have never worked anywhere, innovated or invented anything. Everything they own was stolen from Kenyans and must be returned to Kenyans. Arm yourselves and prepare for the coming uprising,” the part of the post read.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) says the post was false and intended to incite violence, contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018.

Muteti denied the charges and was released on Sh15,000 cash bail.

The case is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on December 30, 2025.

The DCI has cautioned Kenyans against the misuse of social media, reminding users that spreading false information online is a criminal offence.
