Residents of Lugari Constituency have come out calling on the government to speed up investigations following the mysterious death of former area MP Cyrus Jirongo.

Led by the chairperson of the Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO), Boaz Bulimu, the residents have urged sleuths to dig deeper and unearth the cause of death of their leader.

Bulimu said it was in the public domain that despite the postmortem and forensic reports, there were still gaps in the narrative leading to his death.

He quoted both Fred Gumo and George Khaniri, who are leading the funeral arrangements, saying there was more to the story than what the public and family were being told.

Gumo and Khaniri, while agreeing with the postmortem report yesterday, expressed concerns over some grey areas that left more questions than answers on how the leader loved by many met his death.

He said it was time for investigators to get down to unravel the mystery surrounding his death.

“We as Lugari residents are very saddened and perturbed by the way our leader Cyrus Jirongo passed on, and there are a lot of loopholes that need to be tied up together to explain clearly how our leader died. This is the only way our hearts will rest, knowing the plain truth of what happened,” he urged.

He observed that a sombre mood has engulfed the family, friends and the entire community as they try to come to terms with the tragic death of their loved one.

Bulimu said it would be better and reassuring if the matter is resolved before the leader is laid to rest as scheduled on 30th December 2025 at his Lugari home.

The residents said their only hope to know the remaining truth now squarely lies in the hands of government machinery, as they are the ones with the capacity to carry out thorough investigations.

The calls come days after the United Opposition, led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DCP Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa, held a press conference asking the government to unravel the mystery around Jirongo’s sudden death, stating that there was more than meets the eye in the matter.

At the same time, Tiriki elders from Vihiga visited Jirongo’s home calling for vengeance if their son was in any way killed.

They said their son will only rest if it was just an accident, but if the hand of man was involved in taking away his life, then justice must be done.
