The Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of President William Ruto has resigned and immediately announced his bid to vie for State House in 2027.
In a brief statement released at 10pm on Sunday, January 11, Eliud Owalo said his position in government had become untenable.
“Following my declaration earlier today that I intend to run for Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the year 2027, my position as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency is no longer tenable,” he explained.
“I have therefore resigned from the position with immediate effect,” he said without giving further details.
Earlier in the day, Owalo had indicated that he was plotting how to unseat Ruto in 2027 saying he has amassed relevant experience and has a track record to deliver better.
He revealed his plan while he attended the 106th commemoration of the death of his grandfather, Prophet Johanna Owalo, who was the founder of Nomiya Church, held at the church’s headquarters in Oboch, Kisumu County.
Owalo has been the face of government project’s delivery, touring and inspecting ongoing ones across the country.
He has traversed almost all counties and gave progress reports of each of the projects.
Before assuming this role, he had been a Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT but was sacked together with the whole Cabinet following the GenZ protests.
He was left out of the new cabinet and later got appointed in the role he has just resigned from.
He has previously contested for the Kibra parliamentary seat where he coined the famous ‘Liwe Liwalo ni Owalo’ rallying call.
