The Speaker of the National Assembly has expressed optimism over the recovery of Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi following a visit to KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India, where the legislator is undergoing specialised treatment.

During the visit, the Speaker said he was encouraged by the significant progress made by the MP and assured Kenyans that his condition has stabilised under close medical supervision.

The medical team, led by Dr Nitha J, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Consultant, briefed the Speaker on Wanyonyi’s condition, confirming that he is responding well to treatment and rehabilitation through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care approach.

“Hon Wanyonyi is receiving round-the-clock care from a specialised team, and his recovery is on a positive trajectory,” the Speaker said.

On behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Kenya, the Speaker thanked doctors and staff at KIMS Health for their professionalism, dedication and high standards of care, noting that Parliament stands in solidarity with the MP and his family during the recovery period.

The visit also included a meeting with the hospital’s management, led by Chairman and Managing Director Dr M I Sahadulla and Assistant General Manager for Operations Ms Subina, who outlined the facility’s specialised services, advanced diagnostic capabilities and its growing stature as a regional and international referral centre.

The Speaker observed that India — particularly Kerala — has emerged as a preferred destination for many Kenyans seeking specialised medical care, citing quality services, advanced technology and relative affordability as key drivers.

He said the visit provided valuable insights into potential areas of collaboration between Kenya and India’s healthcare systems. Upon returning to Nairobi, he plans to engage relevant parliamentary committees to explore partnerships in specialist training, skills transfer, research and structured referral mechanisms aimed at strengthening Kenya’s healthcare capacity.

The Speaker was accompanied by Mr Stephen Apopo from his office and Kenya–India Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Mary Mutuku, who reaffirmed the High Commission’s continued support for Kenyans seeking medical care in India.
