Record Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia and their arch-rivals AFC Leopards are locked in a tense battle for supremacy at the top of the league table as the season enters a critical phase.
Gor Mahia, popularly known as K’Ogalo, reclaimed their place at the summit after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Murang’a SEAL FC. The win lifted the Green Army to 30 points from 15 matches, allowing them to edge past Ingwe on goal difference.
AFC Leopards, who have also amassed 30 points, drop to second place having played one more match. Ingwe have featured in 16 matches and trail Gor Mahia due to an inferior goal difference, keeping the title race finely poised.
Meanwhile, defending champions Kenya Police FC continue to struggle in their bid to retain the title, despite renewed optimism following the Football Kenya Federation’s acquisition of a Sh15 million SportPesa sponsorship for the league this season.
Police FC currently sit fifth on the standings with 24 points from 15 matches, and their title defence suffered another setback after they were held to a 1–1 draw by a resilient Mara Sugar FC.
With Gor Mahia holding a game in hand over their closest rivals and the chasing pack closing in, the battle for league supremacy is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent seasons.
