Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has intensified her criticism of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, launching a scathing attack on his leadership style and alleged exploitation of supporters. Her latest statements paint a picture of a leader she claims is driven by self-interest rather than public service.

Wamuchomba, who previously stood as one of Gachagua’s staunchest allies in his political camp, has dramatically shifted her stance.

In a social media post on Thursday,  Wamuchomba, who has become increasingly vocal in her disapproval of what she describes as the DCP leader’s authoritarian approach to leadership, revealed that during his tour of the United States last August, Gachagua traversed the country to solicit money from the diasporians.

According to her, Gachagua got upward of KSh 600 million, part of which he used to procure bulletproof cars, and the remainder to settle his debts.

“When he travelled to the US, he was given over KSh 600 million. He bought two brand-new bulletproof four-wheelers worth 65 million each, a sound and a jammer system, and paid all his personal and family debts,” she said.

Wamuchomba contends that these funds were primarily channelled towards personal expenses, including the purchase of bulletproof vehicles and settling personal debts, rather than supporting his political movement.

The Githunguri MP  expressed particular concern about Gachagua’s apparent indifference towards his supporters who faced difficulties in recent political rallies across Mt Kenya, which turned chaotic. She highlighted instances where his followers sustained injuries during confrontations with law enforcement at the rallies, yet allegedly received no support or assistance from their leader.

“For the record, he didn’t share any dollar with his injured gallants or repair our vehicles that were damaged as we defended him in Olkalau, Naivasha and other areas where we were attacked together. In fact, when his close associates were arrested and put in cells, he abandoned them and went to the USA for a mugithi concert, “Ngemi”, a trip he could have postponed to bury the dead first. He left an MP, a female and a male youth leader and other ardent followers detained in Kahawa cells,” she added.

Furthermore, she criticised the DCP leader’s perceived inaction regarding supporters who faced legal challenges.

According to Wamuchomba, Gachagua showed no initiative in advocating for or supporting those arrested despite their loyalty to his cause. This, she argues, demonstrates a concerning pattern of abandoning supporters once they have served their purpose in advancing his political agenda.
