Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi has alleged that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is grappling with a serious internal crisis, claiming that a faction within the party has already predetermined the outcome of its upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).
Speaking on Monday, January 26, 2026, during an interview with a local television station, Omondi said two distinct factions have emerged within the party, raising concerns about transparency and fairness in the forthcoming internal elections.
According to the legislator, one faction, allegedly led by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, has already decided on the party’s leadership lineup and political direction even before the delegates cast their votes.
“What is happening in ODM? There are clearly two distinct groups that have emerged. You can clearly see there is one group that has already made up its mind; they will take the party leadership, and they have already given you their lineup. Elections have been called, but they have already given the results of those elections,” Omondi said.
The remarks come amid growing speculation about divisions within ODM as the party prepares for its NDC, where key leadership positions are expected to be contested. Omondi’s comments are likely to intensify debate over internal democracy and succession politics within the Raila Odinga-led party.
ODM officials have yet to respond publicly to Omondi’s claims, but insiders suggest that the party leadership is working to maintain unity ahead of the crucial convention. The NDC is expected to set the tone for ODM’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 general election
