President William Ruto on Monday chaired a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting at State House, Nairobi, bringing together top party officials, governors, Members of Parliament, and Members of County Assemblies.

Among those in attendance were Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and Juja MP George Koimburi, who recently distanced themselves from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp. Their presence at the high-level meeting signaled a shift in Mount Kenya’s political dynamics and growing realignment within the ruling party.

The meeting, chaired by President Ruto, was also attended by Deputy Party Leader and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and several UDA governors. Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening party structures, enhancing grassroots mobilization, and preparing for upcoming party elections.

Wamuchomba and Koimburi’s presence has been widely interpreted as a public show of loyalty to President Ruto amid rising tensions between factions aligned with the Head of State and those backing the Deputy President. The two legislators have in recent weeks criticized Gachagua’s approach to Mount Kenya politics, accusing him of promoting division within the region.

Political observers noted that their move could further isolate Gachagua as President Ruto consolidates his influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
