Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has issued a public apology to congregants and clergy of Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, following a chaotic incident that disrupted a Sunday service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a video message shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, January 26, 2026, Sudi expressed regret over the events that unfolded during the service, describing them as unfortunate and disrespectful to the sanctity of the church. He said the congregation had gathered in good faith for worship, only for the event to be turned into a political spectacle.
“The church had invited worshippers and guests in good faith, but what happened was unexpected and distressing,” Sudi said. “I sincerely apologise to the clergy and congregants of Witima ACK Church for the disruption and the embarrassment caused.”
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator accused Gachagua and his allies of orchestrating the chaos, alleging that they had turned the church into a stage for political theatrics. According to Sudi, the incident was a deliberate attempt to attract public sympathy and manipulate political narratives.
Sudi further criticised Gachagua and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, urging them to desist from what he termed as “political drama” in places of worship. He maintained that churches should remain neutral spaces for prayer and reflection, not platforms for political confrontation.
The incident at Witima ACK Church has sparked widespread debate within political and religious circles, with leaders calling for restraint and respect for sacred spaces. Church officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding the apology or the events that transpired during the service.
